I do agree with writing being an important aspect to a students education. I think the best way to enhance someone's ability to write is by repetition. In my opinion having the students first write a rough draft, then have a classmate check to see that the thoughts make sense. I would not advise the students who are writing or the ones reading to pay attention to spelling. This day in age everyone has spell check and a dictionary so there is no need to dock points for this mistake. After the students have an outline, and a rough draft read and edited by their peers I would like the students to type the paper. This is when students can take advantage of spell check. This also lets the students work on their typing skills. With limited time in the classroom I think it would also be beneficial for the student to have one or two people from outside the classroom read and edit the paper as well. This will allow for the students parents to have a chance to see what the kid is doing in school, and to let the parents help them if it is needed.

(Not totally sure if I understand the second question)
Taylor, while I agree with your thoughts in regards to teachers using Inspiration for lesson-planning, I would have to disagree in regards to students not being able to use the program. Nowadays, kids pick up on computer programs much faster than us adults do. In addition, I think Inspiration would really help students with a starting point, especially visual learners. I remember having a hard time getting started when I had to write a paper. If I had a program like Inspirations available, I think it would have been much easier to organize my ideas.
ReplyDeleteTaylor-I'm with you on Inspiration!! I think it is very detailed and would be of great use for the teacher. I was already thinking of ways that I would use it for my lesson plans in order to stay organized. I also agree with you on using it as a visual aid. It is great for organization!!
ReplyDeleteI too agree with you about having fellow students proof read other student's rough drafts. If you find that your classmate made a simple mistake, you will, more than likely, avoid the same mistake in your own paper. I think students can learn a lot from each other if they are given the chance!!
Okay, I find it funny how some people see things completely different than others and this is a perfect example...I TOTALLY missed the boat on Inspiration being a tool for teachers as well as students. Yet you and Kayleigh went straight to that point of view..and now thinking about it I can't believe it didn't enter my mind...it would be a perfect tool for us to use!...Goodness the time we can save in lesson plans alone!
ReplyDeleteBut I am going to side with Christine in that to totally by pass our students with regards to Inspiration would be silly..For goodness sakes ten year olds are more skillful at this stuff than I am..Not only that but some students learn better through the computer and visual learning vs. hand written assignments...
I think Inspiration can be helpful to both of us in other words...Don't limit its possibilities!
Taylor, I agree completely on the fact that it would definately help with a more visual learner to see the bigger picture. Being a visual learner myself, i've had it alittle rough lately in internet classes. I also think that you need to reconcider the use of it for your students. Yes it may take a couple of months to help your students understand all utilities that Inspiration has to offer, but in the end I believe your would see a great improvement in your students essays and projects.
ReplyDeleteIt is true on your defination to Inspiration as it being well organised and helps ones organisation. I believe it not as just the technique that helps the teacher to present their presentation or good for students with visual learner. I know it gives a big picture to visual learner to learn faster and easier but students who are not visual but believe in reading there is the a button where they can click and read the diagrams in more traditional way they wirte their notes. This technology is too advance and i believe all kinds of learner can get benefit from this new and advance technology. It is true writing now days is easier because the technology today allow us to spell check before we submit out your work. Plus if you post your writing in Blog then your friends or family can edit your work and help you share ideas and then you can submit your new edited writing. It makes your work well prepared on the topic you are assigned.
